Abdullah Alkadi wrote in his last message on Twitter, “God give me joy more than what I suffered. Give me comfort more than I toiled. Don’t disappoint me ...”
The FBI is assisting in the investigation of a Cal State Northridge student from Saudi Arabia who was reported missing by his brother two weeks ago, police said Wednesday.
Detective Frank Flores of the LAPD’s Robbery Homicide division said the FBI is the only federal agency currently assisting the department in the search for Abdullah Alkadi, 23.
“It’s part of the investigation,” Flores said. “Given the person involved, his background, he’s a foreign student — there’s some interest.”
Flores said the department is following up on all available leads but would not offer further details on where the investigation is headed.
Alkadi’s two cousins and a friend, all of whom were Abdullah’s roommates, last saw him at their home in the 9900 block of Reseda Boulevard on Sept. 17. He was reported missing early the next morning, his brother Ahmed Alkadi has said, adding that it was very uncharacteristic of his brother to disappear without being in contact with any family members.
Abdullah Alkadi, one of seven children, visited his parents and his other siblings in Saudi Arabia for the summer and returned in August, his brother said. He is a student of electrical engineering and had been studying in the United States since 2010, he said.
Around the time he disappeared, Abdullah Alkadi sold one of his cars, an Audi S-5, via Craigslist, Ahmed Alkadi said. When his phone was still active, Ahmed Alkadi was able to trace it via his brother’s account to Beaumont in Riverside County. However, he has said it was “very, very odd” since neither he nor his brother have known ties there.
In his Twitter profile, Abdullah Alkadi describes himself as an “ambitious guy who’s looking to make (a) difference in the future.”
His last Tweet on Sept. 14, which was written in Arabic, stated: “God give me joy more than what I suffered. Give me comfort more than I toiled. Don’t disappoint me ...”
He has black hair and brown eyes. He is 5-foot-3 inches tall and weights about 110 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans and beige shorts, according to police. Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Carlton of the LAPD’s Missing Persons Unit at 213-996-1800. During nonbusiness hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
